The Multatuli Museum contains an extensive documentation centre where over 3,000 books, over 1,000 brochures, about 10,000 cuttings and over 1,000 pictures, images and posters can be consulted, partly dating back to Multatuli's lifetime.
Almost all of this material is accessible by computer, as are the first seven parts of Multatuli's Volledige Werken (= Collected Works), the Multatuli Encyclopaedia and the Bible, to which Multatuli often referred. It is possible to search these corpuses for specific words or concepts.
The exhibition in the Multatuli Museum consists of a permanent display of personal objects, and a thematic part that changes every year.
The permanent exhibition comprises his writing desk, his personal library in a very nice display cabinet, his globe, his pendulum, his travelling case and the famous red chaise longue in which he died. There are also some portraits and engravings, and the ornamented urn in which Mulatuli's ashes were kept for years.
On the basis of these objects the visitor will be given an introduction to Multatuli's life and works.
